London is a city in the south of England. Its
name was Londinium in Roman times, and about 45,000 people lived there. The
population is about 7.5 million now.
There are places in London with the names of
important people or battles like Trafalgar Square (Battle of Trafalgar) and
Victoria Street (Queen Victoria).
The people of London are called Londoners or
'Cockneys'. Famous Londoners include Charlie Chaplin, an actor, and Conan
Doyle, the writer of Sherlock Holmes stories.
